In order to expand the reach and impact of researchers' publications, the Federal University of Santa Maria invested in the Scival indicator analysis platform . Developed by the Dutch company Elsevier and used by scientists from more than 20,800 institutions around the world, the platform is available free of charge to the Institution's employees and students for a period of at least two years. SciVal uses supercomputer technology to provide fast results for searches in Scopus , considered the largest database of citations and academic abstracts from journals, books and texts presented at conferences and that have been peer-reviewed. Scopus brings together 21 thousand indexed titles in science, technology, medicine, social sciences, humanities and arts.
The metrics obtained from SciVal can help UFSM in measuring its current performance through the production of its teachers/researchers, in establishing more assertive research and internationalization actions and policies, as well as evaluating the impacts of its scientific production on the community academic”, explains the dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research, professor Cristina Nogueira. SciVal allows you to visualize the DM Databases performance of academic production based on metrics from research groups or postgraduate programs. It is possible to compare academic performance in relation to research centers in Brazil and around the world. Other uses of the tool are “Identifying and measuring existing international collaborative partnerships and analyzing research trends in different areas of knowledge”, as added by the dean.
SciVal performance indicators The platform allows you to work with a series of metrics and comparative reports on academic production. The main possible indicators to be obtained are the following: Research performance, institution, country or region ( overview module ); Comparison of progress in reach and impact from different perspectives ( benchmarking module ); Testing collaborative scenarios with academics from different research centers ( collaboration module ); Trends in themes in evidence in academic publications based on sections of areas ( trends module ).
