Truth is very much needed in the field of law enforcement. 90% are in prison without physical evidence [Barry Scheck, Time May 31, 2010 p.29]. Mr. Scheck's discoveries on actual innocence created a network of university Innocence Projects which retry cases with newer DNA techniques applied to old evidence. One of his books contains a graph showing about 50% of the problem is police and prosecutor misconduct. I believe the lack of physical evidence should create automatic reasonable doubt for the jury.
In Harvard Business Review, June 2001 it was stated that generic decision making tests show people with 90% confidence in their decision make correct decisions 70-80% of the time which corresponds to a generic human error rate of 20-30% or 25% to be brief. That is the same error rate an Innocence Project website once claimed for rape victims identifying their attackers.
So if visual testimony is 25% wrong and jury guesses are 25% wrong, it's no wonder that well practiced state DA's can convince gullible juries to convict when there is no evidence. Juries should be educated that the state DA's are immune from prosecution for their mistakes, so most have no other motivation than to win and get reelected. Ask your DA if he or her is really out for truth, justice, and the American way.
